How to Embed a Link in Google Slides (Quick Guide)

Google Slides is a great way to create and share presentations online. But did you know that you can also embed links in your slides? This can be a great way to add extra content or reference materials to your presentation.

This tutorial will show you how to embed links in Google Slides. Let’s get started!

When it comes to presentation, you will want your slides to be visually appealing, informative, and easy to navigate. In some cases, you might require adding a link to your slides.

Use the hyperlink feature to attach a URL to descriptive text or an object that your audience can click on. A hyperlink opens the destination page; it does not display an interactive website inside the slide.

Here are the steps that you need to follow to embed a link in Google Slides:

1. Start by opening your presentation in Google Slides.

2. Select the text or object to which you want to add a link. In my case, you want to link to the text “information” so I have selected it.

3. In the top menu, click on Insert > Link.

4. Paste the URL of the link you want to add and then press Apply.

That’s it; you are done. Your link will be live now.

There are a few other ways to drop a link onto a slide too. You can highlight the text or select the object you want linked and then click the link icon in the toolbar. If you prefer the keyboard, Ctrl+K on Windows or ChromeOS and Command+K on a Mac open the same link dialog.

You can do this by first selecting the image and then clicking on the link icon in the toolbar. You can also use Ctrl+K on Windows or ChromeOS, or Command+K on a Mac.

Once you have added the link, click the linked text or object and open the destination from its link popup. Check it in slideshow mode too. If the destination is a restricted Google file, make sure your audience has permission to open that file; adding a hyperlink does not grant access.

To correct the destination, click the existing link and choose Change. Choose Remove if you want to keep the text or image and remove only its hyperlink.

That’s all there is to it! As you can see, it is pretty easy to add links to your Google Slides presentation. Just remember to test the link before sharing your presentation with others to make sure it works as expected.

How to Embed a Video in the Google Slides

Do you know you can also embed a video in your Google Slides? This can be really helpful if you want to add a video clip or tutorial to your presentation. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Start by finding the YouTube video you want to add to your presentation. The By URL option below is for a YouTube link, not an arbitrary webpage or a direct video file URL.

2. Once you have found the video, copy its URL from the address bar of your web browser.

3. Next, open your presentation in Google Slides and go to the slide where you want to add the video.

4. In the top menu, click on Insert > Video.

5. Choose the By URL option and Paste the video URL in the box that appears and then press Select.

Your video appears on the slide, and you can drag the corners to resize it or move it around so it sits nicely alongside the rest of your text and images. Select the video and click Format options in the toolbar, or right-click it and choose Format options. Under Video playback, choose whether it starts on click, automatically, or manually.

For a video stored in Google Drive, choose Google Drive in the Insert > Video dialog instead of By URL. Check the video file’s sharing permissions as well as the presentation’s, then test playback with the access your audience will use.

Conclusion

Adding links to your Google Slides presentation can be a great way to add extra content or reference materials. It is also an easy way to add videos to your presentation. Just remember to test the links before you share your presentation with others to make sure they are working as they should.
