An Exponent is a mathematical expression that represents repeated multiplication of the same base number. The base number is written as a superscript to the right of the exponential symbol. For example, 3 to the 2nd power is written as 32.
While creating mathematical documents, we often need to write exponents in Google Docs. If you don’t know how to do it, don’t worry. Let’s check out the steps you need to follow to write an exponent in Google Docs.
The first method of writing an exponent in Google Docs is by using the superscript feature. To do this, follow these steps:
Begin with opening Google Docs and signing into your account. After that, create a new document or open the existing one where you want to add an exponent.
Now, write the number you want to add as an exponent in your document. As an example, if you want to write 2 exponents 5, simply write it as 25 on the document.
After you write the number, highlight it using your mouse.
Once you highlight the number, click on “Format” located at the top menu bar and select the ‘Text’ option. In the drop-down menu, you will see the ‘Superscript’ option. Select it.
That’s it! Now you will see the selected number as an exponent in your document.
You can also use an equation to insert an exponent in Google Docs. For that, follow these steps:
As usual, start by opening Google Docs and signing into your account. Then, create a new document or open the existing one where you want to add an exponent.
Click on “Insert” located at the top menu bar. In the drop-down menu, select “Equation.” Doing so will insert an equation editor box in your document.
Now tap on “Math Operations”.
After that, press “Xb”.
In the equation editor box, write the base number. For example, if you want to write 2 as an exponent of 5, type ‘2’ in the box.
After writing the base number, press the right arrow (➜) on your keyboard. Now you will be able to enter the exponent number. In our example, it would be ‘5’.
Once you enter the exponent number, double click ‘Enter’ on your keyboard. This will close the equation editor box and you will see the exponent in your document.
